Roman & Monika |
Roman was an atheist. Roman knew almost nothing about the Bible, yet here he was staring at my personal testimony brochure (Všechno se změnilo - Everything had Changed) and asking, not as a scorner, but in total sincerity, "So, just exactly who is Jesus Christ?". That was January, 2005 and it was the beginning of a journey from dead atheism to living faith. Over 50 hours of one on one, personal Bible study saw this inquiring atheist slowly change; first to accepting the existence of God, then |

to grappling with conviction of sin, then to believing that Jesus Christ is not only the Son of Man, but truly the Son of God - and finally, to calling upon the Lord to be saved. The "Romans' Road", for an atheist like Roman, requires more than a skeleton summary of the basics of salvation, but rather a thorough contemplation of the gospel. We start at Romans 1:1 and work our way, step by step, to the grand, liberating conlusion of Romans 8:1. "There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, ..." On May 3rd, 2005, that verse became a reality for Roman. Prior to this, my wife led Monika to Christ. In September 2006, I had the privilege of performing their wedding. They are both a living testimony of the grace of God and transforming power of the Gospel. “If all this is true, WHY didn’t they teach us this in school?!”, asked Monika. Monika was one of over 50 people attending the second night of a Creation conference with speaker, Dr. Pat Briney. Her question was not sarcastic, but very sincere. Dr. Briney spent the next 20 minutes answering that question by relating his own experience with academic bias in the American university system. For Monika, that was a turning point, at which she decided to check the little box on her visitors card next to the statement: “I would like to talk to someone about the Bible”. She and her boyfriend Roman came to meet us on a Wednesday night after our midweek service. Two hours of questions and answers followed. That meeting led to a series of Bible studies, based on the book of Romans. Several weeks later, after the Sunday service, Monika went into a side room, very troubled. Emilie went in to talk to her.“Is there anything I can do to help?”, she said, to which Monika cried, “NOBODY can help me - I am so dirty!” Emilie responded, “but I know someone who can." They reviewed the gospel and it wasn’t long before Monika was asking the Lord to forgive her and save her. And He did :) Monika has been a witness for the Lord from the start. The change in her life was dramatic, as she and Roman had lived the total “party” life style before getting saved. She works as a head secretary for an international firm in Prague and has taken a stand for the Lord in her company. In September 2006, I had the privilege of performing the wedding of Monika and Roman and they now serve the Lord together in our church. |
